Skin and Wound Care is a major health care concern that affects many individuals with different types of wounds and consumes vast resources. Wounds have varying effects on the quality of life of those affected, their families and caregivers
This workshop aimed to enhance the practical knowledge of healthcare professionals to provide skin and wound care because it is a major common consideration in the day to day caring of patients with wounds whether in acute, long term or community based environment.
• Identify the different structures of the skin and understand the physiology of wound healing
• Differentiate between the different categories of wounds
• Holistically asses a patient and their wound/wounds
• Develop an individualized treatment plan utilizing international assessment tool
• Differentiate between the various wound care product categories and types
• Perform wound care procedures in line with infection control best practice
• Apply best practice principles to all different categories of wounds
• Adapt their practice in a low resource setting with best practice principles
• Document and monitor treatment, identify problems, manage and refer as required to the multi-disciplinary team.
